Xhaka: Not Manchester United, but Monchengladbach


The Manchester United ex-target, Granit Xhaka transferred from Basel to Monchengladbach strengthening the squad ahead of the Champions League. xhaka signed a 5 year contract with the German team. Their director Max Eberl admitted that there were other big clubs trying to sign the player, and so he was very happy that he chose Borussia. Hamburg also tried signing the player in January, however the transfer fee was rejected. The prospective midfielder also admitted that he wanted to play in Germany, and Borussia was his choice, and admitted he had more lucrative contract offers from other clubs. Xhaka rose to the limelights thanks to the performances in the Champions League this year, which saw Basel go through the knockout phases and finish above Manchester United. The fee is reported to be €8.5 million.
